Buffet Selection
I’m super excited to write this post – I’ve found a great, cheap place for lunch after church on Sundays. I read about this place online and I’ve been meaning to try this place out for a while. Kedah House serves up home-cooked style Malaysian Style food in a buffet! This place is a hole in the wall, but the food is really great!

way buffets should be. I would rather have a buffet serve a few good items well, than a whole mass of items that taste plain terrible. The only buffets I’ve been to recently are the ones in the States (Tulalip casino anyone? It’s not too bad). I’ve don’t eat Malaysian (albeit a buffet) food that often, so this was a real treat! And for $9.99 I think this is a fantastic deal!
I piled my plate with Rice, Beef Rendang, Fried Chicken, Gado Gado w/ Peanut Sauce. There was also Egg Sambal too and Soup. The beef rendang
Dessert!
was very very flavourful and moist. Beef Rendang is slow cooked, and I think that’s what makes it so tender And I loved mixing it around my rice. The fried chicken was pretty amazing too. It was was very very moist as well, and it was fried perfectly crispy. Super juicy. The only thing I can compare it to is Church’s Chicken but I would say it’s much better. It’s juicy like Church’s but no where as greasy or MSG-tasting and the skin is crispier! Gado Gado is just an assortment of cucumber, lettuce, tomato wedges, dried turnip deep-fried shrimp crackers (Thanks Ally!), beansprouts deep-fried tofu and you’re supposed to pour peanut sauce
Pandan Cake
on it and mix it all up. I’ve never had Gado Gado before and I thought it was great! My friend and I agree that the peanut sauce was very tasty.
I liked the soup – it was just a clear flavourful broth on some sorts. I liked it, but my friends thought it was too MSG tasting. The dessert was also nice as well. There was Pandan Cake. For those of you who don’t know what Pandan is, it’s a tropical plant in South East Asia and gives Pandan Cake it’s green colour. I’ve never tried this before, but it’s not one of my favourites. I thought it tasted a bit like Playdough LOL. There was also a soup, that I don’t know the name of. It tasted like Red Bean Soup, but a lot creamier and sweeter. And the soup was more of a light purple colour.
Overall, the food at Kedah house is awesome! I would totally go here again. You should too if you feel like no frills, just plain good Malay food. Oh yea, and if you’re a poor starving student with $10 bucks and some change n your pockets.
PSST: The buffet is open on Weekends and Friday nights and I saw on a sign inside that they also have the buffet on Wednesday and Thursdays now!
